in the hospital after a police chase and crash that sped through two counties. it started in philadelphia near the roosevelt boulevard exit ramp on to the schuylkill expressway. it ended seven miles later in plymouth meeting, where the motorcyclist wrecked. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at the scene of that crash. and jesse, fill us in on what happened. >> reporter: rosemary, state police investigators say the crash ended here at the intersection of chemical road and germantown pike. first responders tended to the rider who crashed down an embankment in a business park development at this intersection. investigators say the unidentified motorcyclist originally entered the blue rouge at ridge pike and turned on to chemical road. he sped east on chemical until he lost control and crashed trying to escape pursuit in the business mark. he's been rushed to the hailey hospital in custody with non-life threatening injuries. now investigators are trying to determine why he refused to yield to troopers on the boulevard in philadelphia sparking both the chase and the crash conclusion. we'll check in for more details

and be with you again in about 30 minutes. live in plymouth meeting, montgomery county. jesse gary nbc 10 news. also new from overnight, police have a suspect in custody in connection with a shooting in west philadelphia. nbc 10 was on the scene on hoopes street after shots were fired around 10:30 this morning. one man was shot in the chest and went to the hospital in critical condition. we have some new information about a police chase that crossed state lines from delaware into pennsylvania. overnight, we learned that this all started when officers on routine patrol found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. they discovered that the two victims on monroe street in wilmington just after 6:00 last night. the man is in critical but stable condition. the woman is stable. while at the scene, officers saw a car take off. a police chase ensued and ended with a crash in folsom delaware county. >> they crashed here at the intersection. >> exactly. and the two suspects one went

down fairview and one went down that way and they caught him on foot in front of raymore and flanagan. >> right now, police have the two men in custody. there's no word yet on exactly what charges they will face. on this easter sunday let's take a live look from vatican city where pope francis is celebrating mass with thousands gathered in st. peter's square. for christians easter marks the resurrection of jesus christ. here at home you're looking live over the cathedral basilica of st. peter and paul. easter sunday services begin at 8:00 this morning. there will be a total of five masses today. the last mass is at 12:30 this afternoon and will be said by archbishop charles chaput. now to new details about this house fire and collapse in

pennsauken camden county. we've learned that the home on stow road belongs to the mother of a pennsauken volunteer firefighter who's fighting cancer. the fire quickly spread through the entire house before it collapsed. the volunteer firefighter and his girlfriend pictured here have both been battling cancer. they are now in remission. friends tell us it's a shame the couple has been through so much and now this. >> they're just wonderful people and, you know, i guess with not very good luck you know? things -- hopefully things turn around and look up for them. >> the american red cross is now helping three adults displaced by the fire. the fire chief says yesterday's high winds and compromised water supply made it difficult to fight the flames. two firefighters in philadelphia suffered minor injuries battling a brush fire

last night in the wissahickon neighborhood. investigators also say that the winds here made it difficult to get the flames under control. tomorrow the city of philadelphia will mark the end of the mourning period for slain sergeant, robert wilson iii. on monday mayor michael nutter and other top brass in the city will close the official 30-day mourning period for sergeant wilson who was killed in the line of duty on march 5th. according to investigators, he was inside this north philadelphia gamestop store, buying a game for his son, when two brothers tried to rob the store. wilson stopped the robbers, but died in a shoot-out. prosecutors say at trial, they plan to show surveillance video from inside the gamestop. carlton hipps and ramon wilson are charged with his murder. another farewell to an

officer killed with his own weapon. mark hudson was laid to rest. a line of mourners paid their respects at st. joseph's church. in addition to serving as a police officer the 26-year-old was a volunteer firefighter. >> he was a great guy. you know sad to see. >> still just going through my mind over and over again. one minute he was there, you know, alive and cracking jokes and the next minute he's gone. >> police say hudson was shot once in the chest last saturday inside of his apartment. his girlfriend tyaina finch, is charged with his murder. it's a situation that put passengers way off-schedule. next, the wrong turn that landed this plane in a sticky spot of sorts. plus a creative eye, steady hands, and lots of patience. the important project a local artist is working on ahead of the pope's visit to philadelphia. and kind of a chilly easter

but by noon today, the winds will start to pick up. it won't be as gusty as it was yesterday. temperatures by noon around the upper 50s. but it will be a breezy day, as we go through the afternoon hours. breezy and mild though. 62 degrees by 4:00 p.m. and we will stay dry for your easter sunday looking pretty perfect for any easter egg hunts out there. we'll talk more about the rest of your weekend forecast also some rain in the receivedseven-day, that's coming up. >> this morning, aviation officials are looking into why a plane veered off a runway in missouri and ended up stuck in the mud. it happened as the american eagle plane was about to take off last night. more than 30 passengers were helped off the plane and bused to the terminal. none of them was hurt and they got on other flights to their destinations. maintenance crews towed the aircraft from the taxi way. you may remember something similar happened just last month. a frontiers plane got stuck in the mud. the plane was taxiing when the

new this morning, the man convicted in a string of sexual assaults in atlantic city has been sentenced to 46 years in prison. 36-year-old patel of egg harbor township must serve more than 38 years before he is eligible for parole. last year a jury convicted patel on nearly two dozen counts. prosecutors say he the targeted prostitutes during the summer to have 2012 because they were less likely to go to police. patel has maintained that he is innocent. the racketeering trial of

narcotics officers in philadelphia continues this week. testimony is expected to resume tuesday after a four-day break. six officers are currently on trial for allegedly using excessive force and robbing suspected drug dealers. last week a witness testified that one of the officers dangled him off a balcony during a raid. a seventh officer pleaded guilty and is set to testify against his former colleagues. this morning, we have some new video of the search and recovery operation at the germanwings crash site in the french alps. military members, police and rescuers have been combing through debris to recover human remains. the jet crashed late last month, killing all 150 people onboard. prosecutors believe that the german co-pilot, andreas lubitz, locked the captain out of the cockpit and intentionally crashed the jet. a flight data recorder found last week appears to confirm that the co-pilot accelerated the plane right into the mountainside. now to news out of kenya, where police are offering a

$215,000 reward for the capture of the suspected mastermind of the deadly garissa university massacre. police released this wanted poster of al shabaab leadership mohammad mohammad. he's accused of plotting thursday's attack which killed nearly 150 people. investigators believe that he was targeting christian students. mohammad, a former teacher in garissa, is still on the run. al shabaab has killed more than 400 people on kenyan soil over the past two years. emotions ran high at a sports stadium in nairobi yesterday as survivors of the massacre reunited with their families. six buses carrying surviving students arrived a to the stadium. some of the students who were wounded were taken straight to ambulances waiting there on standby. in response to the violence in kenya, propose francis once again denounced what he called the complicit silence by the international community as christians are massacred by

islamic extremists. happening now in vatican city as you can see, pope francis is greeting the thousands of people in st. peter's square where he has said an easter sunday morning mass. he is, of course in the popemobile waving to the throngs, the crowds that are out there on this easter sunday. the chester county artist who created the official icon for the world meeting of families in philadelphia, of course that's when the pope will be coming to our area, the artist is unveiling new paintings on the easter sunday. nbc 10's matt delucia got a sneak preview at his studio and asked him what it means to have his work on display not only for the pope's visit but also at the vatican? >> my first order of business is trying to get as much territory covered as possible.

>> reporter: the brushstrokes are countless. the size is immense. >> i sketched it out and then transferred it up to this scale. >> reporter: and the task well it's humbling. >> certainly for someone who came from going mostly gallery work. >> reporter: now neil carlin is no stranger to art, not even catholic art. he's been painting for the church east past eight years. >> it became very apparent quickly that that's the type of work that i wanted to do. >> reporter: a calling that came in an unusual way. >> each piece is an opportunity for me to learn more about the faith that i was -- since i wasn't raised within the faith. now his work will be seen by millions during the world meeting of families. the icon he painted last year is on public display at the basilica in center city and the vatican. >> it left me a little dry mouthed and speechless thinking about how many people were going to see this. with his reputation on the rise

neil's latest job was for a single parish. three paintings now at the request of one priest at the church of st. mary in swanksville. >> he wanted something that was the beginning and the end of mary's role in the history of salvation. one is the enunciation, the coronation of the virgin and our lady of angels. these three paintings, if you think they were done overnight, think again. neil spent about 12 to 16 hours a day for three months to get these ready. and all of his work comes out of this windowless kennett square mushroom house that he converted into a studio. much like his faith, now appreciated by the world. my hope is that the pieces still inspire. and obviously since i didn't design these, the hope for these pieces is to be faithful enough to the artist that originally did it. >> reporter: in kennett square matt delucia, nbc 10 news.

a.m., that's maybe when you're heading out this morning, or if you'll be out. north and west you can expect temperatures in the upper 30s by 8:00. philadelphia, 46 degrees. suburbs should be in about the mid- to low 40s. knowles sunny and through the middle of the day today, you'll notice those winds starting to increase again, but it's not going to be as gusty as it was yesterday. radar, nice and dry. this is great news for any easter egg hunts going on today, and it will stay nice as we go through the afternoon hours. here's future weather. as we go through your easter sunday, at least through the first half of the day, by 7:00 a.m. this morning, temperatures still in about the 40s for most of us. suburbs, you'll be in the 30s, 9:00 this morning, sunny, 50 degrees. winds start to increase by 11:00 a.m. especially. temperatures by then in the mid-50s. we do stay dry today, clouds stay up to our north, and then we go into your monday and we'll see even warmer temperatures to start off your workweek tomorrow right around the upper 60s. some areas could be close to 70 degrees. and notice the clouds keep increasing through the day on monday. those rain chances return as we

go into tuesday. now, phillies home opener for tomorrow, southwest wind expected blowing out to center field, with around 10 to 15 miles an hour, and temperatures will be topping out very nicely. by 3:00 mid-60s. by 5:00 p.m. upper 60s. and by 7:00 p.m. that's where we'll see those clouds and decreasing temperatures in the mid-069s. for today, sunny and breezy. 61 to 64 degrees for your easter sunday staying nice and dry. of course for the home opener like i mentioned, we will be warmer. rain chance returning as we go into tuesday. that's going to lars for wednesday, thursday friday and saturday. each day we have a chance of showers in the forecast. more details, coming up. today, new schedules begin for some trains on septa's regional rail line. some of the highlights include weekend are train number 232 will operate ten minutes later on the manayunk/norristown line. and on the chestnut hill and

that's the reaction from students at wisconsin after the badgers upset the previously undefeated kentucky wildcats in the ncaa tournament. wisconsin is now heading to the championship game. it was a different scene in kentucky, where stunned fans took to the streets after the loss, some setting fires. police arrested more than 30 people. here's how the game played out. things were all tied up with under two minutes left. sam decker drained the three to put the barnlgsdgers ahead. they hang on to win, 71-64. wisconsin ended kentucky's 38-game winning is streak. in the other final four game duke destroyed michigan state. the blue devils took the lead mid-way through the first half and didn't look back. they win by 20 points 81-61. so it's duke and wisconsin tomorrow night in the ncaa tournament championship games. a landmark down the shore is facing some money problems this morning. we're talking about lucy the elephant in margate.
